What is the meaning of “REACH”? |
REACH is the abbreviation for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals.
The regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 30 December 2006 and came into force on 1 June 2007. A corrigendum has also been published in the Official Journal on 29 May 2007.
With REACH the rules for placing chemicals on the market (by manufacturing or importing), have been totally revised.
REACH has an impact not only on manufacturers and importers, but also on downstream users.
The two of the most important aims of the regulation are:
- | to ensure a high level of protection of human health and of the environment; | - | to substitute substances of high concern by less dangerous substances where suitable economic and technical alternatives are available; |
